FDA Warns Consumers about Olive Recall

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers about olives that were recalled due to possible contamination of a deadly bacterium.

The recalled olives are manufactured by an Italian company and sold nationwide under private brand names such as Roland, Borrelli and Vantai. The olives may have been contaminated with a botulism causing bacterium. The affected olives have product codes that start with "G" and three to four digits following.

Botulism symptoms include: double vision, dizziness, trouble speaking and swallowing and muscle weakness. There have been no reports of illness in connection with the olives.

If you are unsure if the jar of olives you have is possibly contaminated, call the store where you bought it from for a full refund or discard the jar immediately. Do not eat the olives, even if they appear to be fine.
